The biggest mistake I made when I started using Twitter was “following the crowd” and buying software to build my follower list into 10,000 or more. Dumb,dumb,dumb.

As you start following everyone and their dog, you’ll soon find that about every other tweet is someone peddling something. And, oh yes, every third offer will be the latest, greatest system to quickly build your list into the thousands quickly.

Here’s the Twitter Secret no one is talking about. Don’t use any automatic following software, that’s software that when someone follows you, it automatically follows them back and shoots them a tweet thanking them for following you and probably some offer to buy something.

What am I trying to say? You need to carefully build a list of followers that are worth following and have an interest in you and your ideas, and your niche if you are building a business around a niche.

If you been Twittering for a while, you may want to set up another Twitter account and start over. Then, and I repeat, don’t use any automatic following software. Next make an interesting BIO. Include in your bio your interests and some keywords about your niche.

Then sit back and watch for a few hours. Sure enough people will start following you. See, they are searching for words that are contained in your bio. They may also be sending spam to all users. Now take the time to screen (politicians call it vetting) each follower. Look at their BIO. Do they have similar interests to you? Look at 50 of their tweets. Do you really want them following you? Remember, if you follow them back their tweets are going to start appearing in you Twitter time-line.

To conclude, take your time. Be selective on who you follow. Develop a Twitter follower list that contains people you have a rapport with. This Twitter Secret will pay dividends if you follow it.

Don’t Make This Mistake, A Super Tip I Need To Learn

As I’ve built my Internet Marketing business, I’ve made this mistake twice. Here’s a super tip — don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Keep everything diversified, I mean everything. If you don’t, rest assured, it will come back and bite you in the rear-end.

A year ago, my whole business was built around Google Adwords. I violated one of Google’s policies (still don’t know which one as they don’t communicate with you) and my account got cancelled. I vowed then that I would never become dependent on a single source of income from my Internet business.

But alas, I made the mistake again. Different area though. Took my eye off the ball. I had 27 blog sites that I built with a blogging software that manages all the accounts. I felt safe because I had used this software for over 2 years. Do you see the problem here?

Well the owner of the software took a vacation and evidently didn’t leave anyone to man the help desk. I had an access problem on Tuesday. It’s now Sunday and still no resolution. Can’t access the software, getting a re-direct error, my suspicion is a website problem.

So even though I can manage the blogs via WP-Admin, my activities have been severely curtailed.

Conclusion, here’s my Super Tip that I need to learn. I will go back and re-work my business plan. I will look at all areas of my business to find areas where my business might be vulernable to any interuption. I know this is probably dry stuff,

First, in WP-Admin, make a new post and insert an image -

Then, in the Caption box, insert the keywords.

If your blog has a lot of pics in it, be sure to add keywords between the ” ” after alt in the html of each image.

For example:
With no keywords: alt “”
With keywords: alt “keyword1,keyword2,…..keyword8”

Don’t go overboard with this, and don’t exceed 8 keywords as your post may be seen as spam by the search engines.

This is all part of putting together a business plan for your business.  If you are involved at all in using the internet as part of your business plan, you know how daunting it can be without a plan.  For instance, in step 4 he says to decide how much time you can spend on social media marketing.  If you have used Twitter, you can easily get sucked in and wile away hours of your time that could be better spent in other aspects of your business.

I also found step 2 to be very appropriate.  Take Twitter for instance, if you jump in and just start using it willy-nilly, in a short period of time you will come to realize you wished you had taken it a little more slowly, as there is a right way and a wrong way to use Twitter for marketing.

While I have only picked on two of the above points, I don’t mean to diminish the others.  In other words—-you need a plan.

Can Business Trust Twitter? Suspended Accounts Error!

My accounts are all restored today, but it sure gives a bad impression if someone goes to your page and there is a big splash screen saying your account is suspended.

One good thing though is I read their terms and conditions again, as I use various Twitter tools in my business such as Hummingbird, and Twitter Power Systems.  It was a wake up call to say the least.

You read that right.

I’ve told Google to push off.

Stop spidering me.

I no longer want my online business to depend on its ever
changing whims as to what makes a good or bad ranking.

I don’t want to spend time collecting thousands of
backward links then find that they are probably worthless
because the anchor text does not contain a suitable
keyword, or the site does not have sufficient page rank,
or whatever the latest algorithm is.

I don’t want to buy expensive cloaking tools and run the
risk of penalization.

I don’t want to be bothered about whether a domain has a
static or dynamic IP address or have to use different
hosts to make a network of minisites.

What’s that you say ? You don’t need fancy tricks - just
provide good relevant content.

My answer ?

Nonsense.

I have a huge content site devoted solely to ClickBank,
the only one of its kind.

If you wanted to find the most relevant content for a
search on the keyword ‘ClickBank’ don’t you think that
would be at the top ?

Well Google used to agree with you.

It was ranked number 2, with only ClickBank.com itself at
number one.

Today it is ranked … wait for it … number 426.

It is beaten out of sight by sites which have nothing to
do with ClickBank but happen to mention that keyword once.

I asked a search engine expert about this and he suggested
that it was due to keyword density, in other words too
many mentions of the word ClickBank.

Well that has to be the case - the site is after all a
‘Complete Guide to ClickBank’

His advice - try replacing the word ClickBank occasionally
e.g. use ‘CB’.

No way.

That was the last straw and became the inspiration for me
to develop a revolutionary approach to getting traffic.

It led to me being called ‘The Guru who said goodbye to
Google’ in the marketing forums.

And this new approach ?

It uses some of the fundamental pillars of Internet
marketing that you already know - techniques which will
never become obsolete.
